- Star Wars came out in movie theaters: so did Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (a much better movie, in my opinion)
- The Apple II computer came out (with a color screen!!)
- Jimmy Carter (the peanut farmer) was President (inaugurated in 1977) and grants amnesty to draft dodgers from the Vietnam Conflict (did immigration from Canada increase as well?)
- Son of Sam serial killer is killing couples in NYC (on orders from a dog) and subsequently captured in NYC
- Inflation hits 11% (wow)
- the Love Boat airs (I only remember it as re-runs)
- the U.S. Department of Energy is created
